Payers and employers have a vested interest in ensuring their beneficiaries and employees receive a positive experience in their cancer care journey. Most importantly, this means ensuring that cancer providers provide the best possible clinical outcomes based on the latest evidence; ensure a positive experience for the patient and high satisfaction; control variable and total costs; and most importantly, improve survival rate and return of productivity for patients.

Payers and employers who participate in the OMH model can track the value of care provided at facilities around the country, rewarding the care providers who minimize cost and maximize patient satisfaction. The data from the OMH system can also be used to create payment and care templates in conjunction with providers who are new or just starting their first foray into cancer care.

The 2020 COA Payment Reform Brief shows that there are 35 oncology payment reform models in 37 states, with seven models in more than one state, and four models operating nationally. Arizona, Colorado, Florida, and Ohio each lead the way with seven reform models. As various models are proposed and implemented, COA will track their progress and issue updates.
